SHERWOOD, Ark. – The second annual Arkansans Lending Basic Assistance To Respect Our Service members’ Sacrifices (ALBATROSS) golf scramble to benefit military veterans is set to tee off at 2 p.m., June 14 at the Greens at North Hills in Sherwood.

The scramble is being sponsored by the Sherwood Chamber of Commerce and area businesses, with proceeds going to help veterans offset their expenses when visiting Veterans Administration or Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs facilities.

Registration for the tournament is open until June 10 for up to 25 four- or three-person teams. A three-person team may opt to add a military veteran as their fourth player.
FOR RELEASE: Immediate

CONTACT: Marcia Cook, Executive Director
Sherwood Chamber of Commerce
501-835-7600

The Sherwood Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has voted to partner with the Arkansas Business & Education Alliance to participate in the Arkansas Scholars Program beginning with the 2012-13 school calendar year.

The Arkansas Business & Education Alliance, a non-profit organization established in 1990 with a mission to improve education in Arkansas, is responsible for the implementation of the Arkansas Scholars Program in schools across the state. The Scholars Program is presented in partnership with school districts and the area Chambers of Commerce by business and community leaders during the spring semester to eighth graders to encourage the students to take the rigorous courses during their high school years.

The criterion includes:

Challenging students to make a “C” or better in every course taken during high school (9-12 grades)

Completing the Smart Core curriculum which includes four years of Math with one year of advanced coursework, four years of English, along with three years of History and Science

Maintaining a 95% or better attendance record during the four years of high school

Graduating in eight consecutive semesters

Arkansas Scholars is the precursor to the Smart Core curriculum which is the default curriculum for all students. ABEA strongly encourages students to take the rigorous coursework as it prepares them for college and the workplace. Additionally, Arkansas Scholar students have greater access to scholarship opportunities to attend the college or university of their choice. This fits well Governor Mike Beebe’s education initiative which is to increase the number of college graduates Arkansas.

“The Arkansas Business & Education Alliance salutes the Sherwood Chamber of Commerce for taking the step of engaging the business community in helping to increase the number of Sherwood students to reach their full potential during their high school years”, said Diane Tatum, ABEA board chair.
Additional information can be found about the Arkansas Scholars program at www.arkansasscholars.org or www.arkbea.com.

It’s really a goals clarication issue. Once you’re clear about what your goals are, and then what your priorities are, managing your time is much easier. Also, the way of managing your time eectively is really your ability to manage yourself.

Here are some basic rules to better manage your time: First, set hour time blocks to take care of your daily operations and tasks at hand. During this time, don't allow any outside distractions to come in the way. Schedule it on your calendar, treat this time like an appointment, and keep it.

Don’t let technology control you. With all the text messaging, emails and the internet, it almost makes it dicult to do your job! Get into the practice of checking your email only 2-3 times a day, and you will notice you get a lot more work done!
